Route and stages


The route of the first edition of the Jungle Trailrun Cuba is developed mainly in the National Park Topes de Collantes, in the mountainous group Guamuhaya. It consists of 5 stages for a total of  100 kilometers that are developed at a height that goes from 200 to 875 meters above sea level.

Throughout each one of the stages (except the first one)  2 or 3 refreshment stations will be located where participants will find water and fruit, and they will also serve as checkpoints and timing controls.

The route is obligatory and will be properly marked, mainly with marking tape. The organization will make official tracks available for participants to download.

Stage 1 Altiplano-Altiplano (9 km)

This first stage will serve as a contact with the territory of Topes. A short stage but very demanding from the technical point of view. It will take place partially at night, which will give it a special value. With departure and arrival at Plaza del Sol, 250 meters from Hotel Los Helechos and a spectacular route that runs alongside the waterfalls of Vegas Grandes and Caburní. The “passage of the Magic” in the union of the two rivers, will require the maximum attention of the runners.


Stage 2 Manacal-Los Helechos (21 km)

In line stage that will require a short bus transfer to the departure point, located 12 kms from the Hotel Los Helechos. A few kms from the departure of the race will cross the Sendero Huellas de la Historia, next to the Cuban Park. Mangos pelones and the Magic Carpet trail, will be the most significant places of passage. Very varied South-North tour, with tracks and paths and a changing vegetation depending on the orientation of each one of the slopes.


Stage 3 Los Helechos-Guanayara (29 km) KEY STAGE

In line stage that moves the race until the Campsite located at the finish line of the Park Guanayara. After a first technical stretch until crossing the Caburní River, the riders will cross a broad track that crosses the inhabited areas of La Una and Tres Palmas. After passing by Barbera through narrow paths and the Mirador de Tres Palmas, will be a milestone on the route from where to observe a fabulous landscape of lush vegetation and the Reservoir of the Hanabanilla in the background. Finally a spectacular descent to the bottom of the valley, will take us to the Park Guayanara where will be located the Campsite of this edition of the Jungle Trailrun, next to the Charco Azul river.


Stage 4 Guanayara-Guanayara (23 km)

Loop stage in which the athletes will accumulate the greater slopes of the race. The first few miles along the Centinelas del Río Melodioso river, will be the preamble of a long stage that will travel north to Loma de la Legua, to cross the Negro river to the Nicho. Narrow trails that will take the runners into the depths of the jungle until the Nicho. Once there, the return to the campsite will be a continuation up and down a path that crosses Cimarrones and Cien Rosas until the arrival to Guanayara.


Stage 5 Guanayara-Los Helechos (18 km)

In line stage back to the Competition Center located at Los Helechos Hotel. After a harsh climb up to Ballesteros, the athletes will have to traverse trails and tracks in disuse until the Aguacate. Once there, and through the deepest part of the jungle, they will return to gain altitude until the Codina Park, from where they will travel the last kilometers of the race, to the finish line next to the Hotel Los Helechos.
